Benedict Cumberbatch recently finished a three-month stint playing "Hamlet" in London. In addition to raves about his performances, the actor earned headlines for giving nightly speeches in which he talked about Syrian refugees, and urged the audience to donate to Save the Children.

"No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark. You only run for the border when you see your whole city running as well," he said. "You have to understand that no one puts children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land."

The Guardian reports that Cumberbatch's speeches raised $230,000 in donations from audience members.
