At least 20 people were injured, 3 of them seriously, after an explosion reportedly rocked a grocery store in the southeastern Turkish city of Nusaybin, according to the Turkish newspaper Radikal.

The explosion — the cause of which is unknown, but was at first believed to have been a car bomb — occurred hours after the final votes had been counted in a historic, and largely peaceful, snap election.

Those hospitalized were living in apartments above the shop, AP reported, and were mostly suffering from respiratory problems following the blast.

Firefighters arrived at the scene but their efforts were largely inadequate, Radikal reported.

Nusaybin is a predominantly Kurdish city that lies on the border with Syria in Turkey's Mardin province:

In a separate incident, one person was wounded after clashes broke out in the predominantly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir following the election, which gave the ruling AKP party back its parliamentary majority, AP reported.
