Kobane Countryside

Kobane has made international headlines in recent weeks as it became a test of the US-led airstrikes as means of defeating the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).

Ahmed Abdul Qader, the media coordinator for Thuwar Raqqa, one of the Syrian rebel groups in Kobane battling the jihadists, said he shot this footage moments after a suicide bomber from ISIS blew himself up in the city centre.

Mr Qader and other rebels from his groups found mutilated bodies - including the suicide bomber's remains, lying on the ground.

The ground is charred, and shrapnel sprays the buildings around.

Much of the destruction is from the suicide blast, but some of the collapsed buildings are result of the volleys of bombs dropped by the United States and other participating countries.

Earlier this week, Kurdish and Arab fighters succeeded in pushing west against ISIS, recapturing swathes of the symbolically significant city.

The town is a shell of its former self, with almost all civilians having fled to Turkey or the Syrian border area beside it.

Both sides though remain determined to control the town that has grown to become a symbolic test of which of the powers is stronger.

The US made air drops of weapons for the fighters battling ISIS, and Turkey conceded to allow Iraqi Kurds to cross it's border and swell the ranks of the opposition.

This week the jihadists also brought reinforcements, calling up men trained as a the group's 'police' to come to Kobane to fight, according to one rebel commander.

The fighting is continuing today. The battle for Kobane is not over yet.
